Follow these simple steps to install the SolarSoftware at your site

Fill out the SSW INSTALLATION FORM
Select the SSW missions, instruments, and data bases to install at your site.
When the FORM is submitted, the SSWIDL/WWW server will generate either:
- a customized C-SHELL installation script for UNIX/Linux/FreeBSD/MacOSX users
- a customized ZIP installation package for Windows users
based on the users FORM selections.

An html table summarizing the requested components and implied resource requirements including network transfer and installed size is echoed to the WWW client. You may repeat this step with various instrument configurations to refine your final installation.
Unix/Linux/FreeBSD Users:
- Transfer your customized script to a local disk
  (a link to the script will show up after you submit your installation FORM )
- BASH shell user? Please change to csh or tcsh:
  % tcsh
- Execute the script using the C-Shell % csh -f scriptname
Windows Users:
- UnZip (Extract All) the ZIP file into an empty folder, using WinZip or equivilent Windows application.
- Execute (via click) the setup.bat (setup.bat is one of the extracted files)

Example of a "typical" UNIX/Linux/MacOSX installation

In step 1 (FORM), SSW instruments EIT and SXT, and several data base files had been selected. SSW path had been specified as $home/ssw. Example continues with script execution (step 3)...

The output from the installation script allows you to track the progress if desired, or you can just ignore it. The actual output from this particular installation command (csh -f ...) is shown below with annotated comments shown in a font like this Of course, actual output is sensitive to the SSW configuration which you specified in the FORM in step 1 above.

The current SSW installation package is always copied - this allows "transparent" procedure changes

Map of current tar file sizes on the SSW host is used to verify that files are transfered properly - up to 10 (adjustable default) automatic retries for each file are attempted to allow for intermittent connections

A script is now built from local tar or compressed tar files to make network and tape installations consistent
