PROM7: computation of the hydrogen and calcium spectra for a 1D model of filament or prominence (PRD)

  • Purpose:

PROM7 is designed to compute simple models of solar prominences and filaments. The models consist of plane-parallel slabs standing vertically above the solar surface. Each model is defined by 5 parameters: temperature, density, geometrical thickness, microturbulent velocity and height above the solar surface. It solves the equations of radiative transfer, statistical equilibrium, ionization and pressure equilibria, and computes electron and hydrogen level population and hydrogen line profiles. Moreover, the code treats calcium atom which is reduced to 3 ionization states (Ca I, Ca II, CA III). Ca II ion has 5 levels which are useful for computing 2 resonance lines (H and K) and infrared triplet (to 8500 A). PROM7 uses PRD (Partial Radiative Distribution).

PROM7 is provided under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) version 3 or any later version.

The code was written in Fortran 77, adapted to Fortran 90 by M. C-Y. It must be compiled with an option which insures real numbers to be in double precision.

PROM7 was successfully tested on PCs running linux with gfortran compiler. The source codes are available here : PROM7_PRD. The option insuring that reals are in double precision is already included for gfortran compiler. For running the code, see the README files (English, French). For more details on PROM7, see the user guide (English, French).

  • Input files (test case):
  • intinc.dat: principal data file for incident intensities (for the 10 lines formed between level 1 and level 5 of hydrogen). It contains the intensities at the solar disk center, as a function of wavelength, and a set of 6 parameters defining the limb darkening function
  • intica.dat: data file for calcium lines (incident intensities)
  • tembri.dat: for the rest of the spectrum (in this case, the intensities are given as brightness temperatures)
  • model.dat: file including the number of models to be computed and for each model a line containing 5 parameters (temperature (K), gas pressure (dyn/cm2), thickness (km), microturbulent velocity (km/s) and altitude (km) above the solar surface).
  • Output files (test case):
  • resume.dat: a summary of physical and spectroscopic parameters
  • fort.66: transitions list
  • profil.dat:  a set of line profiles (plus the Lyman continuum), given as numbers
  • profil.pdf: the same set of profiles as “profil.dat”, as a PDF file
